In an exciting development for the world of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Berrijam Jam 2024 invites all students of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) for a groundbreaking competition to revolutionise Image Classification. This year's challenge, "Less is More," is set to push the boundaries of AI by focusing on developing domain-specific image classifiers with an incredibly limited dataset.

Berrijam Jam 2024 is not just a competition; it's a call to action for aspiring AI enthusiasts who dream of building innovative vision models that can change the world. At the heart of this competition is the fusion of technical prowess with the art of storytelling. The challenge this year is to develop a methodology that allows for the creation of highly accurate image classifiers using only 10 training examples - 5 positive and 5 negative images.

This paradigm shift in AI development is aimed at making image AI accessible to a broader range of domains and organisations. By reducing the reliance on vast amounts of data and complex engineering, Berrijam Jam 2024 hopes to democratize the power of vision models.

Participants are encouraged to think outside the box and explore various approaches such as leveraging pre-trained models, utilising latent feature vectors, experimenting with clustering, and even generating synthetic data. The goal is to develop an algorithm and an automated process that can be easily adapted to different narrowly scoped problems by simply changing the provided training data. Potential applications include identifying ripe fruit, detecting faulty circuit boards, spotting cracks in pipelines, and distinguishing between weeds and crops.

Berrijam Jam 2024 provides an opportunity for UNSW students to contribute to the future of AI, where efficiency and adaptability are key. With the theme "Less is More," the event promises to be a platform for innovation, creativity, and the advancement of AI technology that is accessible to all.
